Installation Requirements

--------------------

In order to run the UNITE INSTALL program, your system must meet the

following criteria:

DISK DRIVE.  Your PC must be equipped with a 3.5-inch drive capable of

reading a high-density floppy disk.  Your PC must have a hard disk with

at least 4 megabytes of available disk space on the installation

hard disk for the Unite CD-Maker software.

OPERATING SYSTEM.  IBM OS/2 WARP Version 3.0 or greater must be

installed and running on your PC.

OS/2 CD-ROM SUPPORT.  If your PC does not have OS/2

CD-ROM support installed, use OS/2's selective install procedure to

install CD-ROM support.  Refer to your OS/2 documentation for more

information.  After OS/2's CD-ROM support is installed and your

CD-recordable device is attached to your computer, Unite CD-Maker

can be installed.

    files, may be left unchecked.  If you are reinstalling the software,

    check the Overwrite files option.

8.  Select the component(s) you wish to install.  If all components

    should be installed, use the "Select all" pushbutton.

9.  Before selecting to continue the install, review the install directory

    provided on the lower portion of the Install - directories window.

    These is the directory into which the software will be installed.

    As shown, the default drive is "C", the default directory is "UNITE".

10. After reviewing and modifying, if required, the directory paths;

    select the Install... pushbutton to continue the installation.

What's Next

----------

1.  On a first time install, it is advisable to review the following

    CONFIG.SYS changes to ensure that you area satisfied with the updates.

    Note:  The examples below reflect the default drive and directories.

    a) LIBPATH needs to be modified as follows:

       - the location of the Unite CD-Maker libraries should be added

         as the FIRST entry of the LIBPATH statement as follows:

         i.e., LIBPATH=C:\UNITE\LIB;C:\UNITE\SOM30;

    b) PATH needs to be modified as follows:

       - the location of the Unite CD-Maker executables should be added

         as the FIRST entry for the PATH.

         i.e., SET PATH=C:\UNITE\BIN;

    c) Add the following line at the END of the CONFIG.SYS file:

         i.e., SET CIRCFGPATH=C:\UNITE

2.  The Unite CD-Recordable device drivers must be loaded.  All drivers

    provided by Cirrus Technology are installed into the C:\UNITE\BIN

    area.  The CTCDRFLT.FLT file MUST be copied from the \UNITE\BIN

    directory into the root of your boot device.

        i.e.,  BASEDEV=CTCDRFLT.FLT

               REM the driver below replaces OS2CDROM.DMD /Q

               DEVICE=C:\UNITE\BIN\CTCDROM.DMD /Q

3.  Reboot the PC prior to using the software.

New Features

1.  Support for the Sony CDU-926 CD-recordable device.

2.  Support for the Philips CDD-2600 CD-recordable device.

3.  Support for the Hewlett Packard 6020 CD-recordable device.

4.  Support for the Pinnacle Micro 4X4 CD-recordable device.

V2.1b

------

1.  Fully supported under OS/2 Warp V4.0 (code name Merlin).  The

    online documentation and manual have been modified to the

    Merlin look and feel!  Operationally, Unite CD-Maker works the

    same as under OS/2 Warp V3.0.

2.  Support for the TEAC CDR-50S CD-recordable device.

3.  Support for the Creative CDR-2000 CD-recordable device.

V2.1a

------

1.  Support for the Ricoh RS-1420C CD-recordable device.

2.  Support for the Sony CDU-924S CD-recordable device.

3.  Support for the Smart & Friendly CD-R 2004 CD-recordable

    device.

V2.1

-----

1.  Multisession support for most CD-R drives.  Previously, unless

    you had a Sony CD-R device, the only session that was accessible

    from a CD-ROM/XA multisession disc was the first.  Now, Unite

    CD-Maker gives you the ability to select any session on a

    CD-ROM/XA multisession disc to be recognized as the primary

    CD-ROM volume in the drive.

2.  The Unite CD-Maker documentation is now available on-line!  The

    installation of Unite CD-Maker places an icon title "CD-Maker

    Documentation" in your Unite CD-Maker desktop folder.

3.  If you do not have a CD-recordable device attached to your PC,

    you can now simulate the burn process using the enhanced CD

    Burner icon.  The CD Burner icon has been enhanced to simulate

    the burn process even though you might not have a CD-recordable

    device attached to your PC.

V2.0

----

1.  The following new formats are supported:

                *  ISO 9660 Level 1           *  ISO 9660 Level 2

                *  Digital Audio              *  XA Form 1

                *  Multisession               *  Mixed Mode

                *  Enhanced CD

2.  Tracks from CDs can be copied from the CD to your magnetic

    disk.  This operation is performed by inserting the CD into the

    CD-recordable device, double-clicking on the CD Burner icon,

    and activating the "Copy to file" pushbutton on the dialog box.

    This feature facilitates the creation of your own audio CDs!

3.  32-bit APIs are available to facilitate automating the creation

    of CDs.  These APIs include a .VBE file so that Unite CD-Maker's

    APIs can be called from an IBM VisualAge application.  The

    .VBE file is installed into the \VISAGE sub-directory under the

    installation root directory.

4.  Any virtual CD image file can be dropped on the CD Burner icon.

5.  The CD Burner icon displays valid burn speeds based on your

    CD recorder's capability.

Facts

-----

1.  The on-line documentation's contents is more up-to-date than the

    hardcopy documentation.  Please see the on-line documentation for

    information regarding:

        a) Additional APIs

        b) Converting .WAV to Red Book audio format

        c) Creating virtual CD image files that are to be written to a

           multisession CD.

        d) Selecting a session from a CD-ROM/XA multisession disc

           to be the current volume.

2.  The HP 4020i CD-recorder is commonly bundled with an ADVANSYS SCSI

    host adapter (ADVANSYS APB-510).  This adapter is not distributed

    with a driver for OS/2.  If you plan to use this adapter to control

    your HP 4020i, you will need to manually install the driver as

    follows:

        a)  Copy the file ASC.ADD from the \UNITE\BIN directory to the

            \OS2\BOOT directory.

        b)  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file, and add the entry:

            BASEDEV=ASC.ADD.

        c)  Reboot your PC.

3.  Although many sound files for PCs have an extension of .WAV, not

    all .WAV files are compatible with CD audio. Do not burn .WAV files

    as audio tracks unless they are 16-bit stereo and have a

    44.1KHz sampling rate. 8-bit .WAV files and files that are sampled

    at a rate other than 44.1KHz will not play back properly when

    burned to an audio CD, and playing them could damage stereo speakers.

    All .WAV files created by Unite CD-Maker's "Copy to file" function

    can be safely burned to an audio CD, but .WAV files from other

    sources may not be 16-bit, 44.1KHz files.

4.  Unite CD-Maker is a multi-threaded software.  Setting

    "PRIORITY=ABSOLUTE" in the CONFIG.SYS file forces all priority

    to a single thread.  Unite CD-Maker will NOT operate in this

    environment.  If a priority statement exists in the CONFIG.SYS, it

    MUST be set to "DYNAMIC".

5.  The Philips, HP, and Yamaha CD-recorders do not reset themselves

    after a "test" burn.  If a "test" burn is aborted, or fails, for any

    reason, the disk must be ejected and re-inserted prior to continuing.

6.  At the time of the release of version 2.1c, a firmware bug exists in the

    HP 6020 and Philips 2600 recorders which can result in the failure to

    copy a track to a file. The copy action will appear to complete successfully

    and immediately, but the track is not actually copied. Ejecting the CD and

    reinserting it should correct this problem.
